2016 Track Cycling World Championships, London – Blog

Picked up a nice commission to cover the 2016 Track Cycling World Championships held at the Velodrome in Stratford. Five days of action morning and afternoon session.

I came here for the 6 day cycling event last year and prior to that when I covered the Paralympics for the GB team.

I love the venue, pretty easy to get to and once you know the shortcuts to get your way round its a nice place to photograph.

The World Track Cycling Championships is one slick operation that is timed down to the minute. The events follow each other on time.

Through the week the fans are greeted with a wide range of cycling classifications. Team Pursuit, Individual Pursuit, Team Sprint, Scratch race, Keirin, Kilo TT, Omnium, Madison to name a few.

I find working on one event over a period of time you need to bring to the table different shots, different angles to keep the images fresh. One of the best ways here is the shutter speeds panning on 1/15th and sometimes lower gives very nice movement to the images.

Here is a selection of some of my favourite images from the week.

The week had some great racing and the GB team did well. Laura Trott, Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, Jonathan Dibben, Emily Nelson were my highlights of the GB team.

The last session was electric with Laura Trott, Sir Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish all winning Gold.
