Milford Marina and Milford Fish Docks April 2015 – Blog
We have been coming down to Pembrokeshire for many years, the scenery is amazing and the weather tends to be good. We stay in the Milford Marina which is a marina and a working dock. Milford Fish Docks is part of the Port of Milford Haven.
As a Trust Port, it is a key driver of economic activity in Pembrokeshire, attracting inward investment and supporting over 4,000 jobs. “The Port of Milford Haven is currently working on a £6 million project to develop new lock gates that will secure Milford Haven’s future as a top sailing destination. The gates, which will be installed at Milford Marina and Docks, will be constructed inside the existing lock. The improved facility will help boost marine tourism and business in Milford Haven. The development is part of Visit Wales’ Coastal Tourism Project, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government, to encourage tourism along the Welsh coastline. This is an exciting project since the introduction of a completely new set of lock gates is a rare occurrence in British docks. Atkins, the official engineering designers for the 2012 Olympics, are designing the new gates. The move is part of a major investment undertaken by the Port to make Milford Marina one of the top marine leisure destinations. The development reflects the confidence that the Port of Milford Haven has for the future of Milford Dock” Milford Marina The new Lock Gates Entrance to the Milford Marina Fishing Vessels getting ready prior to departure
What I like about the Milford Marina its a working dock so getting the contrast between fishing vessels and yachts is very interesting. Throw in some lovely blue skies and walking around the area makes for some interesting images. There are big plans for the area and it will be interesting to see the new developments and the impact it will have on the local economy.
